Hatred of imperialism – hatred of racism – hatred of sexism, homophobia and all the other ideologies of repression and explotation – count me in!! Guess I’m a hater : ) To be more serious, I have to say my feelings of political opposition do bridge over into animosity, or hate, when I see the casual disregard with which the leaders of nations take actions that result in political repression, murder, torture. When I think of Sabra and Shatila, when I think of Sharpeville (which I did on this day the 48th anniversary of that massacre), when I think of Contra terror unleashed on the people of Nicaragua I am not wrapped up in feelings of brotherly love….we must channel negative emotion into positive action – to quote Bakunin, "The urge to destroy is also a creative urge."
Hate is a human emotional response we cannot escape, our responsibility as human beings is to not let hate rise out of fear or ignorance and to channel the power generated by our righteous anger.
